Day 12: 19,790 words

Well, unless I can write 210 more words between now and bedtime — and I don’t think I can — I fell a little behind again today. Not bad, but I hate to be back behind the curve so soon after getting ahead of it.

The last time I was serious about NaNoWriMo, they didn’t offer a word count feature on the site until the end of the month, for use when you wanted to actually verify that you had reached 50,000 words.

The word counts I’ve been giving you for the past 11 days are from my word processor, OpenOffice. But this year, the automatic validator at the NaNoWriMo web site is up and running all month and available for use on casual how-am-I-doing updates. I tried it tonight, and discovered that there’s a slight difference between the site’s word count and OpenOffice’s. (OpenOffice shows me with 15 or so more words than NaNoWriMo.)

Since it’s the NaNoWriMo count which matters, I will give you the web site’s word count from this point forward, except in case of technical problems. Sad to say, NaNoWriMo is probably past its technical problems, because some of the people who started writing on Nov. 1 have given up by this point, and so there’s less traffic to the site.
