I was looking at the DVDs of “Get Smart” at the store today. I meant to see it when it was at the theatres but never got around to it.
I didn’t need to spend money on buying a DVD, but on the way out of the store I stopped at the RedBox machine. This is a DVD rental vending machine which I’d been wanting to try out, just to see how it works. It has a selection of DVDs. You make a selection from the video screen, swipe your credit or debit card, and enter an e-mail address (so they can send you a receipt and, I imagine, reminders). They keep billing you a dollar a day until you return the movie or the charge gets to the sale price of the DVD (in which case it’s yours to keep).
The selection isn’t as broad as a store, of course, but you can go online and look at the available movies at your nearby location, and even reserve a title.
The movie is fun, although I haven’t done it justice today. I left work early today because of my late night Tuesday on the election beat. I’ve been puttering around doing things around the apartment with the movie running in the background. (Tonight, I have to teach layspeaking class, then make some chili for tomorrow’s cookoff.)
I may have to rent the movie again for a second viewing.
Our movie tonight at church was “Evan Almighty,” which I never got around to seeing at the theater, so I was happy to turn out for it tonight. My parents saw it in the theatre and absolutely adore it.
It was, in fact, an awful lot of fun. As a fan of “The Daily Show,” I found it even more fun — not only Steve Carell but Ed Helms and Rachael Harris as reporters, and even fake TDS clips with Jon Stewart making fun of Carell’s character (“EVAN CAN WAIT,” reads the graphic over Stewart’s shoulder).
And of course, Morgan Freeman is …. Morgan Freeman, which is pretty much all you need to say.

A “Daily Show with Jon Stewart” classic, from their new web site. Colbert and Carell at their funniest.
