Inconvenience

I’ve been getting an uptick in comment spam lately, so I have made a couple of tweaks to my Disqus settings. One of those will require that if you leave a link in your comment, it will need to be moderated. Hopefully, that won’t be too much of an inconvenience; I’m pretty obsessive-compulsive about checking my e-mail, so it shouldn’t take me too long under normal circumstances to approve any comment.

This only applies if you leave a link. Sorry for the trouble.

Disqus redux

More thoughts about the benefits of Disqus, including an interview with the CEO, are in this Leo Laporte-produced webcast.

A benefit I really didn’t explain earlier — because I didn’t really understand it yet — is that, as more and more bloggers start using this service, it makes it easier for you, the commenter, to keep track of where and on what you’ve commented. You, the commenter, can go to your own disqus page and see all of the comments you’ve left on disqus blogs.

Disqus

Dave Delaney was so enthusiastic about a new third-party comment system called Disqus that I decided to try it, so the “add comment” feature here may look a little different. The system allows more options for people to be notified when someone responds to a post, and it supposedly allows the comments for a post to become more like a conversation, with people responding to each other. We’ll see, and we’ll also see what impact, if any, it has on comment spam.

Try leaving a comment on this post so we can try it out.
