I pretty much only consume diet soft drinks. I bring four cans to work each day in a little cooler, but the other day I didn’t have four to bring and so I had to get something out of the machine. I had already put in my money and the machine was out of Diet Pepsi, so I got regular Coke. It tasted very sweet.
Anyway, I had another sweetened Coke today — on purpose. Don’t worry; I’m not falling off of the diet soda wagon. But I had to try something. I was in the grocery store, in the Latino foods aisle, and I noticed something I don’t think they’ve had before: imported Mexican Coca-Cola, which is made with sugar, not the high-fructose corn syrup now used here in the U.S. I bought one bottle, and enjoyed it on the way home. I really think it does taste different from the high-fructose corn syrup version, and there were new reports in the past few weeks linking the corn sweetner to health problems. (The jury’s still out, and there are conflicting studies about some issues.)
