Milestones

I haven’t been to Hawaii, and won’t be going any time soon, but the number Five-O appears to have special significance for me today, so:

Symphony at the CelebrationIn some ways, the passage of time distills down to lost opportunities. But I’m reminded in several ways today of things in which I take a lot of satisfaction. This morning, I’m going to Tullahoma to appear on cable TV talking about the symphony concert. I believe they post this show to YouTube the next day, and I’ll put up a link to it if that’s the case.

If I get done there soon enough, I will rush back to Shelbyville for a birthday lunch with Dad — but he’s got to work a funeral this afternoon, and so we’ve only got a certain window.

Then, tonight, I have Relay For Life meetings, both to review how we did at the crawfish festival and to do some intensive planning for the Relay itself, which is coming up in less than a month.

My wonderful co-workers, knowing I was taking today off, surprised me Monday with a display at my desk, a birthday cake and other munchies.

It should be a good day today.

Birthday celebration

Oh, my goodness.
Today is my 47th birthday — about which I’ve been a little melancholy this week — but my parents took me to dinner and a movie tonight. The movie? If you knew me, or more importantly if you knew my father, you would not have to ask.

Oh, my goodness.
“Star Trek” is great. I was riveted from start to finish. There’s plenty of stuff there for the fans, but I’m guessing it will work just as well as an action movie for people who aren’t fans.
Go see it.

Good day

My mother’s birthday was yesterday and one of my nephews has a birthday tomorrow; we celebrated both today at my parents’ home. It was a nice day. I came home and spent some time editing video of the celebration (I don’t post stuff like that online because it would be incosiderate to post video of the kids without their parents’ permission.) My video editing so far has been very basic, and hasty, but I’m continuing to learn and hopefully will improve in time.

Anyway, I watched the autism benefit on Comedy Central tonight. My favorite part was when Chris Rock and Stephen Wright performed each other’s material, near the very end of the show.
