OK, gang, in light of the upcoming release of Ron Howard’s movie “Rush,” and because I recently watched “Le Mans” and am now watching a little making-of documentary for “Grand Prix,” here’s a question for you. Please answer here, not at the Facebook link, so that we can keep everyone together.
Which is the better overall movie: “Le Mans,” starring Steve McQueen, or “Grand Prix,” with James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand, and Toshiro Mifune? Both are great, and you may certainly have a preference between McQueen and Garner, but the question is, which is the better movie overall?
I’m not sure I have an answer, myself. I think it may depend on which one I happen to be watching at the time. Grand Prix has more spectacle, while Le Mans has that special cool vibe that only McQueen can provide (as I sit here typing this, the “Grand Prix” featurette has ended and “The Thomas Crown Affair” is starting on TCM).
