Day 11: 20,796 words

Cruising along ….
I’m about a day and a half ahead of pace, which is good, because things happen, and it’s easy to fall behind. I’m not as far ahead of pace as my co-worker Mary Reeves, however.
I told Mary today that I’m not sure this novel is going to turn out to be marketable. Mary said I should worry about that later, which is sound advice. Then again, it’s not really a worry, more of an observation. I don’t think I’ll be particularly disappointed if this novel goes nowhere. Maybe I just need to write it for my own benefit.
The reason I said I think it may not be marketable is that it has a relatively-high spirituality content (one of the two main characters is a United Methodist lay speaker, unexpectedly called to lead a tiny rural church until its new pastor arrives). But I’m not sure the tone and content are anything that traditional religious publishers would be interested in or able to market.
Of course, right now there are parts of the manuscript that are just really, really bad, but that’s par for the NaNoWriMo course. You can always edit the manuscript once you’ve finished this outlandish speed-written first draft.
