Clergy dinner

The church I attend hosted the annual clergy Christmas dinner tonight for the Murfreesboro District of the United Methodist Church. I was a server.

I wish I had gotten the name of the entertainer. He’s from Australia, and Rev. Cathie Liemenstoll mentioned that he had been well-received at an evangelism conference earlier in the year.

He did a little recitation and two songs before dinner, which I saw, and then returned for the main part of his program after dinner, at which time the servers made ourselves scarce. I wish I could have seen the rest of his program.

In the pre-dinner show, he had a clever song about sleeping in church to the tune of “Leavin’ On A Jet Plane,” entitled “Sleepin’ on a Church Pew.” The punch line to it, which I won’t give away here, left the room in stitches.

Thanks! I really am sorry I missed your after-dinner performance. i have a co-worker at the newspaper who's also a UM pastor, and he was there, and said it was terrific. He bought one of your CDs.

I'm also sorry I didn't get the chance to serve your table; I was all ready with a line about how we'd sent someone out to look for Vegemite.
