My family drove down to Opryland the summer before I left for France (1989) and stayed at the Opryland Hotel. That was a big deal for us back then and we paid more for the room than I think we had ever paid for a hotel up to then. The meal we had was not very good, but the hotel was gorgeous, and we had a great time at Opryland the next day. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it because I don't like country music. Though I had only been there once, I was also sad to see it die due to nothing more than greed.

If you walk from the Opry Mills parking lot to the hotel, you pass
some faux rock formations that used to be part of the Grizzly River
Rampage, and through this gateway that used to be the back gate to the
theme park for hotel visitors. That, for me, is the strangest.

Me too John, me too. When we were at Opry Mills and the Opry house back in October, Stacie and I were talking about Opryland and where things were and such. It's strange to be in the physical place with Opryland not there!
