Marty Stuart, with whom my brother shared an airliner earlier this month, has announced that he is starting a new cable TV show modeled after the old Porter Wagoner Show and the other syndicated country music showcases which used to run on Saturday afternoons and early evening.
It’s an interesting idea. I had to smile when I read the story, because I was reminded of the name of Marty’s backup band: “The Fabulous Superlatives.” I think that may be the best name for a backup band in the history of recorded music. It reminds me that there used to be a florist in Nashville which ran really old-fashioned TV commercials, featuring the announcer oozing over “Emma’s …. the supoilative florist.”
