Flak jacket

I have a relatively-small blog, with a relatively-small readership, so it’s not often that I get approached by PR people in my role as a blogger. (Of course, I’m also an old-media journalist.)

But today, I got an e-mail from someone at Turner Classic Movies noting that I blogged about their “31 Days of Oscar” promotion last February and pointing out that “Summer Under The Stars” started today.

I had, frankly, been meaning to post about it anyhow; I just hadn’t gotten around to it.

Each August, TCM has a schedule promotion where each day of the month is devoted to a different star. For 24 hours, only films featuring that star (or supplemental programming like interviews or documentaries related to that star) are shown. It’s a fun chance to get a heavy dose of stars you like, although it may keep you away from TCM on days when they’re featuring a star you don’t like.

Anyway, here’s the schedule:

Michael Caine — Friday, August 1

Charlie Chaplin — Saturday, August 2

Gregory Peck — Sunday, August 3

Marie Dressler — Monday, August 4

Claude Rains — Tuesday, August 5

Anne Bancroft — Wednesday, August 6

Greta Garbo — Thursday, August 7

James Garner — Friday, August 8

Fred MacMurray — Saturday, August 9

Barbara Stanwyck — Tuesday, August 19

Edward G. Robinson — Wednesday, August 20

Ava Gardner — Thursday, August 21

  • How neat that they contacted you!

Is it just me, or does that photo of Chaplin look a bit like Jon Stewart?
