Pardon my sarong

When I first joined Shelbyville Recreation Center, it was the middle of winter, and I needed a new pair of swim trunks. I couldn’t find them in Shelbyville, so I ended up buying them online from a company called SwimsuitsForAll.

For some reason, this company has ratcheted up their direct e-mail this summer, and I’m getting messages from them once a week or more. One of their specialties is plus-size swimsuits; obviously, their business is geared towards the gender that buys the most swimwear, and the male swim trunks are an afterthought. So I was amused to get an e-mail today offering a FREE GIFT in the subject line. When I clicked on the message, it turns out that if I order a specific label of swimwear, I can get 50 percent off plus … a free sarong!

Excuse me while I attempt to contain my excitement.

hey, now, I have had male students from the islands show up in class wearing sarongs. it’s gender neutral attire in polynesian culture, and, as far as i’m concerned, far more appropriate for class than PJ pants.
