The newest incarnation of “Match Game” will air on TBS and the pilot episode will feature Sarah Silverman, Norm MacDonald and “Super Dave” Osborne, among others, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
I’m surprised that they didn’t snag the very talented comic Jimmy Pardo to host, since he’s been hosting a version of “Match Game” as a live stage event for the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre. He has hosted TV game shows in the past — I liked him on “National Lampoon’s Funny Money” — and he is also, believe it or not, the son-in-law of Walter “Chekov” Koenig of “Star Trek” and “Babylon 5″ fame. Andrew Daly, however, is funny on “Lewis Black’s Root Of All Evil.”
There have been attempts to resurrect “Match Game” in the past — the last one, built around Nell Carter and hosted by Michael Berger, was atrocious. I fear that the particular combination of personalities which made the 1970s version a success may never be equaled.
Thanks to my middle brother for sending me the THR link.
