Now we’re cooking

Lodge grill / griddle, originally uploaded by jicarney.

For lunch Saturday, we drove down the mountain to a Mexican restaurant on the Interstate in Kimball. I made a remark about the Lodge Cast Iron Factory Outlet Store in nearby South Pittsburg, and Frank was gracious enough to take us there after lunch.

Lodge Manufacturing is the only U.S. producer of cast iron cookware — skillets, dutch ovens, cornbread molds and so on. They have a factory outlet store, and if you like cooking with cast iron (and why wouldn’t you?) it’s a little bit of heaven. They have store-quality merchandise for a reasonable price, but the real reason to go is the room with the factory seconds — with minor cosmetic flaws, sometimes so minor that you’d be hard-pressed to find them. I bought this reversible grill-griddle, which sits on one large burner. Of course, I had to try it out. :) I’m using the grill side (the one with the raised ridges) to cook a T-bone. The griddle side is flat for things like pancakes.

That’s a nice griddle but I’m more interested in where you found that great-looking T-bone! The ones at Krogers don’t even look that good.

Actually, I think it did come from Kroger. I went there Sunday morning
    – I had some time to kill between a committee meeting at breakfast at
Hardee’s and the start of Sunday School. I just had enough time to get
the steak home, get it in some marinade, and get to church.
