My new cap

I got a really nice cap today, as a gift.

Capt. Brent Canady, whom I can’t say that I’ve ever met, is now the commander of the U.S.S. Essex, currently on duty in the Pacific. He’s a Shelbyville native, and when we found out he would be getting command of the Essex, I made sure that their public affairs officer got us all the information. We’ve run several stories since that time — one about the ship’s departure, one about the change of command ceremony, and one about a community service day while the ship was in port in the Phillippines. I can’t take credit for any of them; we pretty much ran the stories and photos as they were sent to us, with the public affairs officer’s byline in the interest of full disclosure.

Anyway, Canady’s father came by today, really grateful for the fact that we’d put his boy in the paper. He’s understandably proud. Anyway, he gave me a really nifty USS Essex cap, which I wore with pride this afternoon.
