Apparently, bronchitis has aged me more than I realize.
I am feeling much better today, and I went to church and then went by KFC for the buffet for lunch. The fellow in line right ahead of me got the buffet; with tax, they charged him $8 even. I, too, ordered the buffet, but mine came in at $7.26 or some odd figure. I looked at the receipt and realized they had given me the senior citizen’s price.
I’m 45.
And it’s not like the senior price at KFC starts at age 50, either; the posted age is 65 or older.
After lunch, I went and covered a cornerstone opening, the first newspaper work I’ve done (other than answering or forwarding e-mails) since Wednesday. Turner Normal College was an African-American school in Shelbyville around the turn of the 20th Century. One of its main buildings, which one of our pencil companies was using for storage, collapsed last summer, and had to be torn the rest of the way down. The owners of the pencil company preserved the cornerstone and it was opened today at an AME church which had a long affiliation with the school. There were various newspaper clippings, course catalogs and a Bible inside.
I will have photos in tomorrow’s newspaper.
