Vision, chapter 2

As I told you last week (here and here), I had an eye exam but the eye doctor was skeptical of the results because they seemed inconsistent with my old prescription. So I went back today. This time, Dr. Ridley himself did the exam, and he was pleased with it. So I drove back home to Shelbyville and went to Wal-Mart optical.

For 2007, I had increased my contribution to my health savings account to pay for my wisdom teeth removal. I left it at the same level in 2008, and so I knew I could use that money to pay for my glasses. So I went a step up — from the cheapest lenses to the mid-grade lenses, which the optician assures me I will like much better. I still saved money on the frame — I don’t like those fancy rimless models anyway, but I think the frame I chose will actually fit me better, and give me a little more lens from top to bottom (which is important for bifocals). I’m pleased.

I went for the Nikon lenses, which the optician said would take a week longer than the Zeiss. But when she entered my order into the computer, the due date showed up as Feb. 7 — not even a week and a half, and far less than the three weeks she had predicted. We’ll see if they actually arrive on that day or not.
