We needed a locally-written opinion column for the opinion page today, so I wrote one on short notice about my visit to the eye doctor. I’ll link to it here tomorrow, but here’s the short version:
My actual vision test was done by someone lower on the food chain, and when the ophthalmologist looked at the results, compared to the prescription of my existing glasses, he said they didn’t match up. But by that time they’d already dilated my eyes, so I couldn’t re-test today. I’ll have to go back to Tullahoma next week. I don’t know exactly what happened. The woman who gave the vision test kept having to ask me to blink, so it may be that my eyes were gunky and that was affecting whether lens A was clearer than (after the blink) lens B.
The good news is that, whatever my prescription, I passed the important stuff — no glaucoma, cataracts or anything like that.
