My annual bottle of wine

Roan Allen Red

I’m not a frequent drinker — a glass of wine at a banquet now and then. But I usually end up buying a bottle during the Celebration at the Celebration Trade Fair, which is held inside Calsonic Arena. Usually, Bedford County’s own hometown winery, Tri-Star, is set up there, and I’ll buy a bottle from them. This year, however, Tri-Star is taking a different approach, heavily promoting tours and tastings at the winery itself. So they weren’t at the trade fair. But Beans Creek Winery from Manchester was there, along with a couple of others.

Not being a refined wine consumer, I tend towards the sweeter wines. I know that’s gauche, but so be it. This is a semi-sweet red wine called Tennessee Roan Allen Red, named for Roan Allen F-38, one of the very first Tennessee Walking Horses. It seemed appropriate, given the setting.

I like sweeter wines, too, John, and believe it or not, I had NO idea that we have our own winery in Bedford County!

It’s off Halls Mill Road. If you’re in Shelbyville, heading towards Unionville, you turn left on Halls Mill Road and then take the first road to the right (can’t remember the name). The Casteels seem like real nice folks.
