No pie tonight

My parents have embarked on an epic journey out west, in part to visit my California-based brother and sister-in-law and the grandkids, but also to go other places and see other things.

As usual, this means I have to stop by every other day and take care of the cats and plants.

The instructional note said that if any of their tomatoes were ripe, I was welcome to them. I had been hoping for this, because Fixin’ Supper had pointed me to this yummy-sounding recipe for tomato pie from earlier in the summer at Home Ec 101.

But the CD-ROMs hung between the plants have apparently not been doing their bird-repellent job, and three or four red ripe tomatoes were split, either from birds, rot or some combination of the two. I got only one very small tomato to bring home.

The recipe sounds so good I may have to find some ripe tomatoes elsewhere.

  • You won't regret it. I just got back from the produce stand as the baby-to-be is demanding tomato pie.
  • Aww, man. Birds are the worst.

I will say, my mom read about the tomato pie earlier this week, and was sad she was coming up this weekend....she figured it would all be gone. But I had exactly two pieces left when she and my dad got here last night, and the reviews were still good. I hope you found some tomatoes.... :)
