My host, Freddy Mamani, knows about as much English as I know Spanish, but we get along well regardless. He greeted me at breakfast this morning with “¡Happy Estados Unidos!”, and I will certainly echo that greeting to all of you back in the states on this Independence Day. (Freddy has no problem remembering the date, as it is also his daughter Susan’s birthday.)
