Evan Almighty
I never got around to seeing the Jim Carrey comedy “Bruce Almighty,” but I know a lot of people who really liked it, even when viewed from a faith perspective.
Even so, I don’t know if I’d have predicted this: “Evan Almighty,” the sort-of sequel which stars Steve Carell as a new character supporting character from the original film who is approached by God (Morgan Freeman again) and ordered to build an ark, is featured in a wrap-around ad outside the cover of this month’s “Christianity Today.” The outside of the wrap-around features Carell on a faux front cover of the magazine, with an ad for the movie on the back. (The real cover, tucked inside, features author Donald “Blue Like Jazz” Miller.) Inside the wrap-around are ads for a charity/volunteerism web site and a live Christian rock concert, both tied in with the movie. The web site is co-sponsored by Youth Specialties, Willow Creek and the International Bible Society, while the concert will be telecast on TBN, among other networks!
