Jason Randal is a phenomenal close-up magician. He’s a big favorite of David Letterman‘s — Letterman often invokes personal privilege and has Randal as a guest on April 12, which is Letterman’s birthday. This week, he was on with Craig Ferguson, and was just as amazing. (He even found a way to work a paperback copy of Craig’s novel, “Between the Bridge and the River,” into one of the tricks.) Randal has links to several video clips at his site.
Randal’s tricks are amazing, and he has a low-key, conversational style, without the high theatrics of traditional magicians or the hip irony of some of the comedy-oriented magicians. But his tricks stand on their own, and become all the more startling as a result of his genial approach.
By the way, someone in Randal’s camp was savvy enough to buy not only jasonrandal.com, which reflects the correct spelling of his last name, but jasonrandall.com, which is what I originally typed.
