Presidential Top Ten

The White House Correspondents’ dinner, reeling after several years of controversial keynote speakers (including the very funny Stephen Colbert last year) played it safe this year with Rich Little. Good thing, because President Bush began the proceedings by noting the value of humor but saying that he wasn’t planning on being funny himself due to the Virginia Tech tragedy.

I haven’t seen Rich Little’s performance but I’ve heard it was, well, about what you’d expect.

They did, however, feature an honest-to-god Letterman Top Ten list:

Hat tip to Mark Evanier, even though he — a Leno apologist who obviously doesn’t care for some aspects of Letterman’s comedy — linked to the bit for purpose of wondering why Tony Snow would consent to introduce it.

Evanier’s comment was not a dig at Letterman at all, it was a dig at Tony Snow.
