Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the annual concert by the Nashville Symphony May 1 at Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville. If you’ve known me for any amount of time, you know that this concert is one of my great passions. I serve on the local steering committee, and in that role I’m in charge of publicity and host the official concert web page.
This is a fun, casual, family-oriented event. Children and students of any age (with student ID, if they’re adults) are admitted free of charge, and adult general admission is $5, less than you would pay for the privilege of watching Will Ferrell and Jon Heder wearing glittery, skin-tight skating costumes.
The symphony will be conducted this year by Albert-George Schram, in his first visit to Shelbyville. I first saw him conduct at a pops concert three years ago and thought he was terrific. I think his personality and enthusiasm will add to the fun of what is already a fun event. I’ll get to interview him on the radio in a couple of weeks to promote the concert.
Our special guests at this year’s concert will be the Community High School band from Unionville and perennial favorites the Motlow College Jazz Ensemble.
This year, for the first time in a number of years, we have a Tullahoma ticket outlet (I took the tickets by there this afternoon). We also have ticket outlets in Shelbyville, and there are always tickets available at the door.
If you live in Bedford County, or one of our adjoining counties, this concert is well worth your time. Bring a picnic supper and come early to hear the Motlow band and take in the art show on the arena concourse.
It is, without question, the best music you’ll ever hear in a horse arena.
