Aqua Teen April Fool

Adult Swim announced last week that they would be showing the new “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” theatrical movie in its entirety tonight. I figured there was something fishy about this announcement.

But, guess what? They are, indeed, showing it — silently, in a very tiny little frame in the lower left corner of the screen, during their regular Sunday night programming. It’s much too small to be able to follow anything, especially without benefit of sound. In addition, they are using comically large on-screen graphics to call attention to the movie, to whatever is coming up next on the schedule, and what have you.

At least no one will be able to mistake this prank for a bomb scare.

I note that the movie will be rated “R,” which fits with the way the show has slid from being creative and occasionally vulgar into being vulgar and less-than-occasionally creative.

Yeah, ATHF needs to draw to a close. I’m a big fan, but this season has gotten really, really wierd. Like that episode where that, uh, thing happened to Carl — man, that was approaching sickening.

The plots are losing narrative coherency even by ATHF’s standards.
