Me llamo John

Well, the first night of Conversational Spanish I at Motlow seemed to go well. I like the instructor, Amy — even though she’s an HR professional and I believe she once interviewed me for a job I didn’t get. (I don’t think she remembers me.)

This is a very low-level, non-credit course, and tonight was the first night of the very low-level course, so we kept things pretty basic, covering the Spanish alphabet, pronounciation and so on. We paired up, and each person asked his partner in Spanish what his first name was and then asked him to spell it.

I took this same basic course in 2002, but with a different instructor, and I haven’t followed up on it. (The past three years, I’ve been more concerned with Swahili than Spanish.) So I’m taking it again, which is not uncommon. My instructor in 2002 said many people take it at least twice before moving up to a more advanced non-credit class. Amy said tonight that she knows of someone who’s taken Conversational Spanish I eight times.

The class will meet on Wednesday nights for the next six weeks.
