Singer-songwriter and United Methodist minister Lee Domann was the entertainment at tonight’s banquet. I thoroughly enjoyed his folk style and bought one of his CDs after the fact.

One of Lee’s songs is called “Howard Gray,” about a boy who he and others teased during high school but who eventually forgave Lee. Last week, they actually visited schools in Kansas City together to tell their story of forgiveness and repentance.

I asked Lee at the CD table if he’d ever heard the song “Rachel Delavoryas” by Randy Stonehill. The song has a similar theme — regret at how the singer treated an unpopular classmate — and Randy, too, got to meet the subject of the song. In Randy’s case, the real Rachel Delevoryas’s sister heard him do the song in concert and then brought her backstage to see him at another concert.

Lee knew who Randy Stonehill was but was unaware of the song.
