If you had told me on Sunday that the biggest news story of the week would involve “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” I think I would have attempted to remove all sharp objects from your home.
By the way, this seems like a small point, but ATHF does not air on Cartoon Network, despite the way most news outlets are reporting the story. When the “Adult Swim” programming block began, it was part of Cartoon Network, but within the past year or so Adult Swim and Cartoon Network were split into separate business entities, albeit with the same ownership. There has been talk that at some point in the future they would literally be split into different channels, so that each one could provide 24-hour programming. Yes, at the moment they share a channel number, but they are treated as separate entities by the Nielsen ratings people, by advertisers and what have you. ATHF airs on Adult Swim, not Cartoon Network.
A bit of trivia: In the early 1980s, Nickelodeon and The Entertainment Channel shared a satellite uplink, and so most cable companies just ran them on the same channel. Nickelodeon aired for 12 hours during the day, while Entertainment ran for 12 hours at night. When The Entertainment Channel merged with another channel, ARTS, to form A&E Nickelodeon was left alone on its channel with 12 hours of dead air — which was how they decided to start “Nick at Nite.”
