Talking with Dr. Payne
Several years ago, I had both my left wisdom teeth extracted, and my dentist has been telling me that it’s time for the other two to follow. So I had a consult today with my oral surgeon, Dr. Payne Hardison. Yes, he’s an oral surgeon and his name is “Payne.”
Things actually went fairly well several years ago. I was sedated, in what Dr. Payne calls the “twilight zone”: I was supposedly awake, but I remember nothing in between the time when they put the needle in my arm and the time that Rev. Ray Hartman, who had driven me to the appointment, was helping me up out of the chair. I had some soreness afterward but not nearly what I was expecting.
Of course, this time could be completely different; you never know.
My procedure has been scheduled for January 15.
I really like Dr. Payne, who is in practice with his son. He mentioned that my dentist, Jay Davis, is a nice guy, and I told him that I go to church with Jay and we’re in the same Sunday School class. This led to a discussion of a fascinating Sunday School lesson Dr. Payne attended recently, taught by an attorney from his church, which went into detail about various legal traditions and little-known history surrounding Jesus’ trial and crucifixion. I was fascinated, but at the same time I wondered if Dr. Payne had other patients waiting on him!
