‘Holiday Inn’ or ‘White Christmas’?

Because I care, and because I get annoyed when people confuse the two, I here offer a handy guide for telling the difference between these two often-confused movies, both of which feature Bing Crosby singing the song ‘White Christmas,’ both of which have very similar plots (actually, “White Christmas” is considered a remake of “Holiday Inn”) and both of which are shown on TV this season. Are you ready? Good.

Holiday Inn
1942, Black and White
Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire

White Christmas
1954, Color, VistaVision wide-screen process
Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye

I’m glad we cleared this up.

  • Ah! The great Trivial Pursuit stumper.

It's one of those questions that you THINK is gonna be like "Who's buried in Grant's tomb?" but could actually cost you the game.

I'm proud to say that I beat my all-time rivals with this question in High School. I've had a soft spot for _Holiday Inn_ ever since.
  • Look what you did. You made me wonder where in the world my White Christmas video is. I don't even have time to watch it this weekend. *sigh*
  • I finally bought White Christmas last year because I keep missing it on TV and it's my favorite holiday movie. :) Although Holiday Inn is good, too, and I also like the Bells of St. Marys. Heck, I like Bing! :D
