I’m in stage withdrawal, so naturally I had to watch tonight’s Mark Twain Prize ceremony for Neil Simon.
Most of Simon’s work has been represented tonight by way of film adaptations, given the logistics of such a tribute, but it would be heresy not to have a live performance. So Jonathan Silverman and Jason Alexander recreated their roles from “Broadway Bound” and performed a scene live on stage. And there was also a tape of the original production of “Biloxi Blues” featuring a very young Matthew Broderick.
I need to write something. I had to sit out NaNoWriMo this year because of the play. We had several writers associated with the production. Warren Gore, who played Paul, has had a play published. Matt Anderson, our teenage assistant director, missed the second weekend of the production because a skit of his was being performed at some sort of school drama festival. (It sounded like a funny skit, as he described it to me.) I think Stuart Fulkerson had written a play too, if I remember correctly.
Maybe I should try writing a play. Or a short story. Or something. I just need an idea.
