Paging Peter Billingsley

Kudos to Cingular for their new TV commercial promoting their pre-paid GoPhone program. Although DirecTV has had some funny ads lately incorporating footage from well-known movies, Cingular went a different route, and re-created “A Christmas Story” from scratch. You can tell it’s a recreation because of the different actors, but the sets (including the department store Santa’s slide) and even the costumes (including the bunny pajamas) look authentic. The joke is that in this version, Ralphie wants a cell phone — and everyone keeps telling him, “You’ll run the bill up,” as opposed to “You’ll shoot your eye out.” Very clever.

  • Sigh....every year at this time it becomes more of a handicap: I'm the only person left on earth who hasn't seen A Christmas Story. I finally decided the other day that the reason why is that I was a teenager when it came out, and at the exact wrong age to be watching Christmas movies. But now that I haven't seen it, it's become sort of a thing NOT to see it, you know? Just like, I grew up an hour from Memphis and I've never been to Graceland. So now, I can never go.
  • Sounds like a good candidate for YouTube. Couldn't find it after a quick search :( I'll have to keep my eyes open for it.
