Pickup rehearsal

We had pickup rehearsal tonight.

At Community Playhouse, the rehearsal which falls between the two performance weekends is partly a chance to brush up on your lines but also partly an excuse for pranks and foolishness. You hear strange accents, celebrity impressions, smart-alecky improvised lines, bizarre costumes and whatever else pops into people’s head.

I took my funniest speech of the play and sang it as if it were part of an opera.

By the way, our assistant director told us his parents had been to see the play during our first weekend and argued about it. His mother thought that our director, who plays Alfred, was the funniest part of the play. His father thought the funniest part of the play was …. well, modesty forbids me from going any further.
