Ready as we’ll ever be

The play opens tonight.

I know our director, who had to take a role in the cast on short notice, wishes we had more time to prepare. Another cast member who joined us relatively late in the process, and who’s also in the middle of getting ready for another play, also had more line lapses Thursday night than you really want during dress rehearsal. But both of them are dedicated and experienced, both bring a lot of energy and creativity to their roles, and I know both of them are working as hard as they can work to be ready for tonight. Each of them stepped in at a time when we really needed someone, and the rest of us in the cast are truly grateful. I trust them. I am, frankly, amazed that our director has been able to memorize so much so quickly.

I have a good feeling about this weekend. I hope it goes well; ticket sales for the second weekend are still kind of slow, and we could use some good word-of-mouth advertising.

I spent so much time hand-wringing about whether I would be able to memorize my own part, but it all came together, knock on wood. I know my lines (which is not to say I won’t screw them up at some point in the process — that can happen to anyone on any stage).

“My Three Angels” is going to be a hoot.

Seats are still available for all performances, although much of the center section is taken for tonight. The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 12. Call (931) 581-7767 or e-mail tickets@communityplayhouse.org to make reservations.
