[...] Even though the heavy lifting for this year’s Kenya trip was done by an anonymous donor, my co-workers at the Times-Gazette still wanted to be a part of the trip. As with my past trips, they held a potluck and asked for donations, raising $137.50. I have some really great co-workers. Doug Dezotell was covering something at one of our nursing homes and mentioned that he wanted to get back in time for the luncheon. When the woman from the nursing home found out what he was talking about, she pulled out a $20 and gave it to Doug to put in the jar, saying she’d always wanted to take such a trip herself. The flyer, by the way, was put together by Donnie Throneberry in our computer room. I think it’s terrific. I have already started spending some of the money — I went shopping for a few odds and ends for my soapmaking workshop, and I dropped off the prescription for my anti-malaria medicine.
