The McPassion

I posted a month or so ago about “Morel Orel,” an “Adult Swim” show which I considered sort of ham-handed, overdone and unfunny satire of Christianity. I don’t know anything about the background of that show’s creators, but according to Christianity Today, the creator of “The McPassion” is a Christian. “The McPassion” is a four-minute film (about three minutes too long, if you ask me) which the creator says is intended to satirize the trend of Hollywood studios marketing movies like “The Passion of the Christ” to the Christian community. This is done through a parody in which “Passion of the Christ” fast food product tie-ins are imagined.

Some people consider the film sacreligious. I understand the creator’s intent, and he’s got every right to make that type of point, but I think the film just suffers from the same type of ham-handed overkill as “Moral Orel.” It’s satirizing a TV advertisement and would have been much funnier and more effective if it were the same length as one.

If you’re curious (and don’t say I didn’t warn you) the movie can be viewed free during Lent (I kid you not) at the web site linked above.

I’m not offended, just underwhelmed.
