Thanks for that. My grandpa was in the military and was a veteran of two world wars. I never got to meet him but I was always impressed by the stories I heard about his time in the army and marines. I say anyone who can go through bootcamp is worthy of great respect.

“…Anyone who served in the armed forces is a veteran, and anyone who served in the armed forces is worthy of our respect and admiration. I was never in the military myself, but I am deeply grateful to, and admiring of, the people who did, and those who do today…”

Thank you, John. I’m proud of your column too.

My husband was in the US Navy (Submarine Service) for 23 years. We added it up and decided that during that period of time, he spent a total of 8 years submerged in the “boats”.

Part of that time of service was during war years, but the majority of it was not.

It took the Navy nearly 15 years to disclose the (at that time)”top secret” event that one of the Subs he was stationed aboard was involved in a particular foreign conflict and give the men a medal for it.

I’d say he’s a veteran. Our country is a safer place in which to live due to our honorable peacetime military, as well as those courageous men and women who serve during times of war.
