A blogger must use discretion when mentioning friends and family, in order to avoid giving offense. For example, while it’s fine for me to send birthday greetings along to my little sister, Elecia, it would be indiscreet of me to point out her age on this, her birthday.
By the way, did anyone happen to see the Super Bowl this weekend? The logo said “Super Bowl XL,” which I believe referred to the Roman numeral for 40. The Super Bowl took place on Sunday, of course, a day when many people attend church. Perhaps some of them heard sermons about familiar Bible stories — such as Noah and the ark (when it rained for 40 days and 40 nights), or the Israelites wandering for 40 years in the wilderness, or Jesus going off into the wilderness for 40 days at the start of his ministry.
But, anyway, the Super Bowl took place this weekend. Professional football has sometimes been depicted in the movies: for example, the movie “North Dallas Forty,” which starred Nick Nolte, Mac Davis and Charles Durning. I haven’t seen “North Dallas Forty,” but with those stars I’m sure it’s a fine movie.
I’ll miss having dinner with my parents and my sister tonight because I have to go to Nashville for a press association banquet. I’ll be riding with my editor, and once we get to Nashville I’ll have to make sure that Kay doesn’t miss the on-ramp for Interstate 40, which we must take in order to get downtown.
By the time we return from the banquet, it will be the end of a long day and I’m sure I will want to catch forty winks.
Anyway, I want to again wish my little sister a happy birthday. She means a lot to me, and I love her.
