I’ve always wanted to learn more about the brilliant theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was killed by the Nazis for his involvement in a resistance group that tried to kill Hitler.
A few years ago, there was a dramatic movie, “Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace,” on public television, but I found it wooden and hard to follow and I don’t believe I made it past the first half hour.
Tonight, however, PBS ran a documentary, “Bonhoeffer,” which was electrifying — both shorter and more dramatic than the previous production. Unfortunately, it was not well promoted; in fact, the web site for the PBS affiliate here in Nashville linked the listing for the program, not to its own web site, but to the no-longer-existent web site for “Agent of Grace”!
The show tonight made me want to read a good quality biography of Bonhoeffer. I will look for one, unless one of you has a good suggestion.
