Layspeaking banquet

I had a terrific time tonight at the Murfreesboro District United Methodist Layspeakers’ and Lay Leaders’ banquet. The speaker was the Rev. William Morris, our immediate past bishop. I have known and admired Rev. Morris ever since he was Murfreesboro District Superintendent and came and spoke every Easter at my father’s church. He is a remarkable speaker, a big black man with a deep rich voice, and always ends his sermons by singing something a cappella.

There was also entertainment, a ventriloquist named David Turner.

I ran into a number of people I knew, including Don Ladd, the conference director of layspeaking and the man who taught my first advanced layspeaking class; an
Auntie Em, a regular reader of this blog. (Some people are just gluttons for punishment.) I wish I could say I was a regular reader of her blog, but Em has found herself too busy to blog lately and hasn’t posted anything since August.

Oh my goodness John, see what you’ve done? You may even cause me to start bloggin’ again…or at least whip up a batch of chili in anticipation of whenever the snow begins to fall. *L* That recipe makes my mouth water just to read it!

It was a wonderful celebration last night and I was so happy to get to see you. It was super to hear Bishop Morris once again.

I’ll be sure to let you know if…er…when (?) I go on that mission trip to Honduras.

Blessings to you and all your regular readers,
    ~Auntie Em~
