I had a terrific time tonight at the Murfreesboro District United Methodist Layspeakers’ and Lay Leaders’ banquet. The speaker was the Rev. William Morris, our immediate past bishop. I have known and admired Rev. Morris ever since he was Murfreesboro District Superintendent and came and spoke every Easter at my father’s church. He is a remarkable speaker, a big black man with a deep rich voice, and always ends his sermons by singing something a cappella.
There was also entertainment, a ventriloquist named David Turner.
I ran into a number of people I knew, including Don Ladd, the conference director of layspeaking and the man who taught my first advanced layspeaking class; an
Auntie Em, a regular reader of this blog. (Some people are just gluttons for punishment.) I wish I could say I was a regular reader of her blog, but Em has found herself too busy to blog lately and hasn’t posted anything since August.
