Prayer request

David was a friend of mine at college. We weren’t real close, but we had several classes together.

David and I caught up with each other at some point after college; he got a job in the entertainment industry, working for a special effects firm. I impressed my oldest nephew one time when my nephew wondered out loud how they had made the car fly in one of the “Harry Potter” movies. I have David’s name on my AOL Instant Messenger buddy list, and the next time I saw him online I asked him the question, and got the answer for my nephew.

Just a week or two ago, I saw David online and IMed him to see if he knew that another ORU alum — younger than either of us, although this fellow and David may actually have been on campus at the same time — is a creator of the movie “Hoodwinked.” (David had not met the fellow and didn’t realize the connection.)

Tonight, it was David who IMed me, to tell me the bad news. He has prostate cancer. He had no symptoms; he had gone to the doctor for something else, and got a funny test result, and the doctor wanted to know what was causing it.

Please keep David in your prayers. He’s still in the process of getting an oncologist, so he doesn’t have a whole lot of information yet.

I’ll definitely keep him in my prayers. The good thing is that they’re having remarkable luck with treatments for that these days. His odds are pretty good, especially if he caught it before the onset of any symptons.

When you say ORU, is that the one in Tulsa? If so, when did you graduate? I had some people I was very close to in High School go there. Odds are you were probably there with them, if it was between 1982 and 1990. ;-p

Tell Dave not to lose hope.

Prostate cancer is relatively easy to handle-especially if
    detected early.

We had two bouts with cancer in our family last year.

My cousin,Andy found he had colon cancer during a routine exam.

My middle brother,Tim discovered he had pancreatic cancer
with involvement of the liver and lymphatic system.

    Both are in total remission.

Tim is dealing with cirrhosis now but we expect him to control it once he’s recovered from the stress his lymph
glands and hepatic system have been through.

New drugs, terrific medical personnel,a positive attitude
and the support of family and friends helped them make
    their miraculous recoveries.

I wish hope, love and God guaranteed 100% cures for everyone but some people are blessed in that manner even without high-
    tech medical breakthroughs.

We’re very grateful for the results we’ve had and other ‘lost
    causes’ have reported similar improvement.

If Tim had had to stop his chemo, they told him a vaccine at
the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center was another possibility.

Tell Dave that the real world has its own ‘special effects
department’ and although we may not understand how all the
work is done, the Creator of our story can apply artistry
that will astonish us once we see the finished product.

    He’ll be in our prayers.
