I was tickled at Robert Smigel’s cartoon on “Saturday Night Live” tonight. It was done in a different style of animation than the usual Smigel cartoons; this one used photos (think Monty Python) for an episode of “Celebrity Mugshot Poker.” With Dave Foley and Phil Gordon of “Celebrity Poker Showdown” providing the announcer voices for a nice touch of realism, the skit featured the notorious disheveled mugshots of Nick Nolte, James Brown and Glen Campbell, the grinning mugshot of Sen. Tom DeLay as well as “runaway bride” Jennifer Wilbanks and the two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders who were arrested recently. It was pretty funny to see them all around the table playing poker.
They’re supposed to have a tribute to Richard Pryor at some point during the show; I’m hoping they will show the famous word-association sketch with Pryor and Chevy Chase.
This is Alec Baldwin’s 12th time to host the show, by the way; he’s tied with John Goodman and one behind all-time champ Steve Martin (who will get to pull back out ahead when he hosts again in February).
