or Advent calendar
When I was a child, we would often have an “Advent calendar.” I want to say that there was a relative who sent this to us every year, although I’m blanking out on exactly who it was. It was a beautiful Christmas scene with little paper doors that you would open, one each day, as a sort of “countdown” to Christmas. Behind each door would be a little picture of something associated with Christmas — a shepherd, an angel, and so on.
