Kitchen Pre-Confidential

A Cook\'s Tour : Global Adventures in Extreme CuisinesSorry to post so much about TV this week; you’ll have to forgive me.

Anyway, a funny thing happened tonight. Earlier today, I had responded to a web site review of the Fox sitcom “Kitchen Confidential” by saying that the real-life Tony Bourdain, on his old Food Network show “A Cook’s Tour,” was much funnier and more interesting than the character based on him in the sitcom. I knew “A Cook’s Tour” was out of production, although Food Network still shows reruns.

So, tonight — on Phisch‘s recommendation — I was watching “Stranded With Cash Peters” on the Travel Channel. I enjoyed it, but what got me really excited was that they showed promos for the show which followed it, “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.” I had no idea this existed; it’s pretty much the same thing as “A Cook’s Tour,” except with slightly more travelogue and slightly less food. And Tony is still much funnier than his fictional alter ego “Jack Bourdain,” even though “Kitchen Confidential” isn’t completely bad.

Bourdain’s show is fairly new, as is Stranded. Hubby and I enjoy them both, although Stranded does tend to get on my nerves after a while.

I haven’t caught the new show yet with the guys who won the Food Network Star competition earlier this year, but I have the VCR set up to tape it this weekend.
