Merry Christmas from Paul and Grace
I received an absolutely wonderful Christmas present in the mail today — a small green terrycloth towel and a box of matches.
The towel is special because it was dyed by Grace Mbithi and other members of New Life Restoration Centre in the Kibera slums outside Nairobi. Unbeknownst to most of us on the team, Rev. Paul and Grace Mbithi sent the towels home with the LEAMIS staff at the end of our trip with instructions to mail them to us as Christmas presents. Here is their message:
REJOICE
We continue to rejoice over all that the Lord has done and continues to do. We thank Him for bringing us together through the LEAMIS team. We look forward to when he brings you ‘home’ to be with us again.
Merry Christmas!
“Paul and Grace Mbithi”
The matches, by the way, are a unique little souvenir; I actually have several boxes which I purchased at Nakumatt (Nairobi’s equivalent to Wal-Mart). The little match heads are normal, but the matchsticks are like nothing I’ve seen here in the states. They are made of wax, or at least a thin paper strip heavily coated with wax. Debra Snellen had suggested them to us as an inexpensive souvenir that we could hand out to friends and family.
